| What is Bayside? |
|
We're Glad You're Here! Thanks for visiting our website. We’d like you to know a few things about Bayside even if this is your first experience with us. We hope you'll join us for our weekend worship services to see for yourself what we're all about. Through contemporary music and practical messages, we present the ageless truths of the Bible in a format that's easy to understand, even if you've never been to church. We are located in Willow Glen beside Willow Glen High School at the corner of Cottle Ave and Dry Creek Road/Clark Way. Parking is directly across from the main entrance on Dry Creek Road. Bayside is a multi-cultural, multi-generational English language community of believers pastored by Dr Mike Thorburn. We are elder led. It is no secret that we are about making people into passionate Christ-followers. From God’s Word it’s clear that this is the mission of the church…to make disciples. More than the numbers—that is, the quantity of disciples—we’re interested in the quality of discipleship—teaching people how to follow Jesus Christ.
Now maybe you just stopped by to look around the website; we’re glad you did! But maybe you’re checking us out today because you’re looking to join with a community of Christ-followers who are passionate about the same things you are…the things we have mentioned right here. It may just be that God has brought us together and that you are the answer to our sincere prayers for him to build his church. Either way, we hope Bayside will be a blessing to you. Bayside began July 1, 2002 in the Fireside room of the Willow Glen Neighborhood Church building and expanded in September to two services. Moving into the main auditorium, February 9, 2003 was our grand opening, the beginning of the regular Sunday services of Bayside - a church community. One year later we launched our first church plant, Next Generation Christian Fellowship and in 2005 we purchased the building we were meeting in and have added a Korean worship service and a Vietnamese worship service to our campus. A survey taken a few years ago asked people why they don't attend church. Their top three answers were: 1. The people are unfriendly; 2. The services are boring; 3. The messages are irrelevant. People who visit our church continually comment on how friendly our Our goal is to be a church with fun and enjoyable children's and youth ministries, small home based Friendship Groups meeting throughout the Bay area and a vision for planting new churches every 5 to 7 years. We are also involved in helping churches around the world through the support of missionaries. I believe that the most important part of church life is building Friendships: a deepening, personal friendship with a living Savior, Jesus Christ, and genuine, trusting relationships with other Christians. Let me encourage you to ask me about our Friendship Groups where there is an opportunity to build friendships and study the Bible. Our ministry is built on four key pillars: Teaching the Authority of God's Word with relevance and authenticity; Lifting high the name of Jesus through Worship; Believing firmly in the power of Prayer; and Sharing the love and forgiveness of Christ with boldness. We invite you to become part of our church family at Bayside. Feel free to talk to me if you'd like to know more about our church. Your friend, Mike Thorburn A man without self-control

How about biblical Christianity?
Sign up for "Thirty Days of The Hebrew Worldview" and receive one email per day for 30 days.
These emails will challenge you as you see the Bible from the perspective of the original audience and with God's original intent.
Over thirty days, you’ll receive 1 email each day to introduce you to this perspective – so that you can start to see the Bible from a biblical point of view. I believe that this will open your eyes. Your faith will be encouraged. You’ll discover that things start to fall in place. You’ll draw closer to God. You’ll see the Messiah in a new light. And, you’ll have fun! - Skip Moen

church is - friendly but not overpowering. I refer to our services as contemporary and informal - by contemporary I mean that our worship services are fresh and enjoyable. I'm not into weird and way out, in fact, we place a high value on worshiping God with reverence. But we still like to laugh. By informal I mean that we don't hold to an outward standard of spirituality - there's no dress code. Feel free to dress casual. Feel free to dress up. God is more concerned with the worship in your heart than the wardrobe in your closet! Informal also means relaxed - we want you to leave our church feeling accepted and energized. I want our church to be a refuge from the struggles and problems we face daily. "Be still and know that I am God," penned the writer of Psalm 46:10.
