“I Want It Now”
Hebrews 11:11-12

  The problem

is not God’s promises

but our ability

to patiently trust God

to do the right thing

 at the right time.

How important is patience?

Galatians 5:22,23

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control.

1 Corinthians 13:4

4Love is patient

Hebrews 11:11-12

11By faith Abraham, even though he was past age—and Sarah herself was barren—was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

“Want it now” people need to:

1. Use the Bible to know about God.

Understand who God is

It’s a trust issue

Know God from His Word

Numbers 23:19  God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind.  Does he speak and then not act?  Does he promise and not fulfill?

Hebrews 6:13When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, 14saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” 15And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised.

2 Corinthians 1:18But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.” 19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.” 20For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ.

2.  Look at past experiences.

Understand how God works

It’s a time issue

Sarah and Abraham

Genesis 17:17Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?”  Genesis 21:1 Now the LORD was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did for Sarah what he had promised. 2Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

2 Timothy 2:13  if we are faithless, he will remain faithful,

Ephesians 3:20  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine

3.  Ask God to develop patience.

Understand what God wants me to do

It’s a turn issue

Genesis 25:20  and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah... 21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.

Genesis 25:26  Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.

God will always be faithful ...

Psalm 77:8  Has his unfailing love vanished forever?  Has his promise failed for all time?

Psalm 119:50  My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Psalm 119:116  Sustain me according to your promise, and I will live; do not let my hopes be dashed.

Psalm 119:162  I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil.

2 Peter 3:9The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
