Leadership in the Heart
Leadership in the Home
Leadership in the Church
Proverbs 3:5,6
“5Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.”
LORD and Lord
– what’s the difference?
LORD – all capitals notes that God’s personal name is
used
YHWH – from Hebrew scriptures (no vowels)
Yahweh – the personal name of God when we add vowels for
the proper pronunciation
Lord (kurios (Greek), adonai (Hebrew)) - "master"
a o ai - because God's personal name was considered sacred
they took the vowels from adonai (Hebrew for Lord,
or master), added them to YHWH and came up with
the word:
Y a H o W ai H or Jehovah
which is actually the improper way to say God’s name
At his incarnation, YHWH was given the name Jesus:
Isaiah 6:1-3; John 12:37-41
Revelation 1:8,17,18; 2:13,16
Jesus
is Lord God Almighty!
Ephesians 4:4-6
“4There is one body and one Spirit--just as you were
called to one hope when you were called-- 5one
Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6one God
and Father of all, who is over all and through all
and in all.”
1. “Lord
and Savior”

2 Peter 1:11; 2:20; 3:2; 3:18

Jesus Christ.”
Luke 2:11
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to
you; he is Christ the Lord”
["The Christ" (Greek) and "the Messiah"
(Hebrew) both mean "the Anointed One".]
2. “My
Lord”
– 8 times in NT
Psalm 16:1-2
1 Keep me safe, O God,
for in you I take refuge.
2 I said to the LORD , "You are my
Lord;
apart from you I have no good thing."
Philippians 3:8
The apostle Paul:
“What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to
the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus
my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I
consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ”
Luke 1:43
Elizabeth to Mary:
“But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord
should come to me? “
John 20:28
Thomas to Jesus:
Thomas said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
3. Lord Jesus
– 105 times in NT
Acts 15:11
– through the GRACE of
“We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus
that we are saved”
Acts 16:31
– BELIEVE in the
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved “
Acts 20:21
– have FAITH in
“I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must

How do we apply this?
L
O
R
D
L – (Romans 10:9,10) Lordship brings genuine
salvation
9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God
raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For
it is with your heart that you believe and are
justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are saved.”
O – (Luke 6:46) OBEYING God is how we live
out Lordship
“Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I
say?”
R – (Mathew 7:21-23) REALIZE that Lordship
produces internal, not just outward, change.
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,'
will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who
does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many
will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we
not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive
out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then
I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away
from me, you evildoers!'
Galatians 5:22,23
“22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23gentleness and self-control. Against
such things there is no law.”
D – (Philippians 2:8-11) DECIDE before
it’s too late.
8And
being found in appearance as a man, he humbled
himself and became obedient to death--even
death on a cross!
9Therefore God exalted him to
the highest place and gave him the name that is
above every name,
10that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, in heaven and on earth and under
the earth, 11and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father.
If Jesus is not Lord of all,
He is not Lord at all.
